Mangaluru, Sep 18: Celebrations erupted in Mangaluru after chief minister D K Shivakumar announced that Tulu will be accorded the status of Karnataka's second official language.
Ministers and Puttur MLA Ashok Kumar Rai were among those participating in the festivities. People were seen bursting firecrackers and celebrating the decision with great enthusiasm.











The State government's decision to grant official language status to Tulu fulfils a long-standing demand of the people of the coastal region.
Chief minister D K Shivakumar said the move was being taken to preserve and promote the Tulu language, as well as the culture and traditions of coastal Karnataka.
