Patna, Sep 18: The district general secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) was found dead at his residence in Saharsa district on Friday, with police suspecting he was murdered on Wednesday.
The victim, 26-year-old Abhijit Singh Rajput, alias Raja, was discovered inside his locked home in Gautam Nagar (Ward No. 15) under the Sadar police station area on Friday afternoon. Originally from Garhbaruari village in Supaul district, Abhijit lived independently in Saharsa. According to BJYM District president Surjit Singh Kushwaha, the youth leader had been unreachable by phone for two days.

Concerned by the silence, a friend visited the house on Friday and, receiving no response, looked through a window to find Abhijit unresponsive in his bedroom. Police were immediately notified and broke open the main door to recover the body.
While locals reported that Abhijit sustained a gunshot wound to the head, police confirmed the head injury but withheld specific details regarding the shooting pending further investigation. Saharsa Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Pankaj Kumar Singh stated that preliminary inquiries suggest Abhijit had attended a party prior to the incident. A Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team was deployed to gather evidence at the scene, and the body has been sent for a post-mortem examination.
Authorities are examining all possible angles, including past cases registered against the victim, and are actively working to identify and apprehend the culprits. Abhijit, whose parents passed away in recent years, leaves behind a younger brother currently preparing for the UPSC examination in New Delhi. His uncle, Avadhesh Kumar Singh, expressed profound shock over the tragedy and demanded a thorough, impartial investigation alongside the swift arrest of those responsible.
