Pune, Sep 19: A 26-year-old man was seriously injured after allegedly being attacked with a sickle over an old dispute in Karhati village of Baramati taluk on Friday afternoon.

According to police, the incident took place around 1.30 pm at a tin shed near Bhairavnath Hotel on the Moregaon-Baramati road in Karhati. Nilesh alias Amol Sadashiv Jadhav was allegedly attacked with a sickle. The suspects reportedly fled the spot on a motorcycle after the attack.

Amol Jadhav sustained serious injuries and is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Pune.

Dwarka Sadashiv Jadhav, 54, lodged a complaint at Supa police station, naming Hrithik Balaso Girme of Karhati and Omprakash Haribhau Bhagat of Loni-Pat as the alleged attackers.

Police said the exact motive behind the attack has not yet been established. Local reports suggest that an old dispute related to the excavation of minor minerals such as soil, murum and sand could be behind the incident. However, police have not confirmed this as the motive.

A case has been registered at Supa police station under Crime Register No. 204/2026 under Sections 109(1) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Two police teams have been formed to trace the suspects, who remain at large. Assistant Police Inspector Shashikant Shelke said efforts were underway to locate and detain them, following which the exact reason for the attack is expected to emerge.

Baramati Additional Superintendent of Police Ganesh Biradar said the precise reason for the attack was yet to be established and the investigation was underway. He added that if the investigation establishes a link to an old dispute over minor-mineral excavation, the revenue administration would also need to take cognisance of the matter and initiate action as per law.

The incident has caused concern among residents of the Karhati area, while further investigation is underway.
