Mangaluru, Sep 19: The Milagres Kabaddi Premier League (MKPL) was held with great enthusiasm on September 17 at the College Rooftop Auditorium, bringing together students and sports alumni of Milagres institutions in a celebration of sportsmanship, teamwork and competitive spirit.
The tournament witnessed the participation of eight teams comprising 84 players. Students from the PUC and Degree programmes, along with sports alumni of Milagres College, represented the various teams and displayed impressive sporting skills and team spirit throughout the competition.
The programme was graced by Dr Alwin Serrao, principal and campus director; Melvin Vas, PUC principal; Dixson D’Souza, vice president of the Parish Pastoral Council; and Diana Lobo, principal, Milagres College of Nursing. Aakash Shetty, PD and Kabaddi coach and event coordinator; Pratheeth Salian, student secretary; and Anusha Moras, joint secretary, were also present.
In his presidential address, Dr Alwin Serrao congratulated all the participating teams and appreciated the efforts of the organizers. He highlighted the importance of sports in the overall development of students, emphasizing that sporting activities help develop discipline, teamwork, leadership, perseverance and a positive competitive spirit. He encouraged the players to accept both victory and defeat with grace and to carry the values learnt through sport into their academic and personal lives.
The programme commenced with the welcome address by Musphic, who also served as the master of ceremonies. The tournament was coordinated by Aakash Shetty, PD and Kabaddi coach and event coordinator, who delivered the vote of thanks at the conclusion of the programme.
The matches were commentated by Divakar Uppala, whose engaging commentary added enthusiasm and excitement to the tournament. The matches were officiated by referees Anand, Sudarshan, Bharath and Sharath, whose contributions ensured the smooth and fair conduct of the games.
After a series of exciting and competitive matches, Team Lala emerged as the winners, while team PU Bulls secured the runners-up position. Milanza United finished as the first runners-up, and BBA Gladiators secured the second runners-up position.
The entire tournament was telecast live on Namma Kudla channel, enabling a wider audience to witness the exciting matches and follow the sporting event.
