New Delhi, Sep 20: India batter Smriti Mandhana on Sunday, September 20, became the highest run-scorer in women’s T20 International cricket, surpassing New Zealand’s Suzie Bates during the semifinal of the women’s Asian Games cricket tournament.

Mandhana needed eight runs to overtake Bates and reached the milestone in the third over against Bangladesh, hitting a boundary off Marufa Akter to take her tally to 4,788 runs.

She then struck another boundary off the final two deliveries of the over to move to the top of the women’s T20I run-scoring chart.

Mandhana now leads the list with 4,788 runs, followed by Bates with 4,758. India captain Harmanpreet Kaur is third with 4,287 runs, followed by Sri Lanka’s Chamari Athapaththu with 4,282 and New Zealand’s Sophie Devine with 3,817.

The milestone also saw Mandhana become the leading run-scorer in women’s international cricket across formats, adding another record to her career.
