Dhuri, Sep 21: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Sunday launched the Aam Aadmi Party's statewide door-to-door campaign from Dhuri ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections, taking the government's four-and-a-half-year report card to households and making ‘Mann Da Munafa’ a central theme of the outreach.
The campaign is aimed at establishing direct contact with voters, with AAP workers and volunteers expected to visit households across Punjab to highlight the government's welfare schemes and development initiatives. The party had announced that more than 2.68 lakh booth committee members would participate in the statewide outreach.
During his door-to-door campaign in Dhuri, Mann met families and interacted with elderly residents, women, youngsters and children. He discussed the work undertaken by his government since 2022 and explained how various schemes were, according to him, providing direct financial benefits to households.
Mann claimed that every family in Punjab was receiving an annual benefit of Rs 1.82 lakh through initiatives including free electricity, healthcare, education and the Mawan Dheeyan Satkar Yojna. He said the figure represented money families were saving on essential services.
“Every family in Punjab is today benefiting by Rs 1.82 lakh annually from the initiatives rolled out by our government. This is not an abstract figure. It represents the money that a household no longer has to take out of its own pocket for electricity, healthcare, education and other essential services,” Mann said.
He said free electricity, healthcare and education had reduced the financial burden on families and allowed them to spend their income on other household requirements. Mann also claimed that lakhs of households were receiving zero electricity bills.
On the election campaign, Mann said AAP would focus on its governance record and avoid personal attacks. He said the party would present its work before voters and seek their assessment of the government's performance.
“Our entire election campaign will remain positive and we will talk only about our work. We will place our record before the people and let them judge it,” he said.
Mann said the door-to-door campaign would give political representatives an opportunity to directly account for their work before the public. He said AAP workers and candidates would take the campaign to every constituency and highlight what the party described as savings for families, village development and spending on public welfare.
Mann also criticised the opposition Congress and Shiromani Akali Dal, making claims about their respective political positions and records in Punjab.
On the issue of drugs, Mann targeted the BJP's ongoing anti-drug campaign in the state. He alleged that drugs were entering Punjab from Gujarat and questioned the BJP over its record on the issue. The BJP has separately launched a statewide ‘Nasha Mukt Punjab Yatra’ ahead of the 2027 elections.
Mann said the door-to-door campaign would now be expanded across Punjab, with party workers and candidates presenting the AAP government's record directly to households.
The campaign comes as political parties step up preparations for the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections, with the ruling AAP and opposition parties increasing their statewide outreach ahead of the polls.
