Beed, Sep 21: A police officer has been booked in Beed district of Maharashtra for allegedly raping a woman after promising to resolve pending issues related to a police case registered against her, an official said on Sunday.

The accused, identified as Ganesh Rathod, is working as an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) at Wadwani Police Station.

According to the woman's complaint, Rathod allegedly called her two days before she approached the police and told her that he would resolve all pending matters related to the police case registered against her. He allegedly told her that he would visit her home.

The woman alleged that after entering her house, Rathod told her that he liked her and subsequently sexually assaulted her.

The woman approached the district Superintendent of Police on Sunday, following which an FIR was registered against Rathod, the official said.

Police said Rathod is currently absconding and efforts are underway to trace him.
