Lake Coogee, Sep 21: The Perth Konkan community came together in a spirit of faith, gratitude and fellowship to celebrate Monthi Fest 2026 on Sunday, September 13 at St Jerome's Church, Lake Coogee. Approximately 300 community members gathered for this special occasion, making it a memorable celebration of religious devotion, cultural heritage and family unity.
The festivities began with a Holy Mass in Konkani celebrated by Fr Vijay D'Souza. A cherished highlight of the celebration was the traditional showering of flowers, a much-loved Monthi Fest custom that symbolises thanksgiving and devotion to Mother Mary.
Following the Mass, attendees enjoyed a delicious vegetarian lunch in the parish hall, where the warmth, hospitality and strong sense of community that define Konkani culture were on full display. The gathering provided an opportunity for families and friends to reconnect and share in the joy of the occasion.
The afternoon featured a vibrant cultural programme showcasing the talents of community members. Dressed in colourful traditional Indian attire, participants celebrated their rich heritage through performances and festivities, creating a lively atmosphere that reflected the enduring spirit of the Konkani-speaking community.
The strong attendance of approximately 300 community members highlighted the close bonds within the PerthKonkans community and its ongoing commitment to preserving cultural traditions for future generations. Monthi Fest continues to play an important role in connecting generations, encouraging children and young people to embrace their Konkani roots, language and customs while fostering a strong sense of community and belonging.
The celebration concluded with a renewed sense of gratitude, friendship and pride in Konkani heritage. Once again, PerthKonkans demonstrated that distance from their homeland only strengthens their commitment to preserving their faith, culture and traditions.
