Kochi: CBI Court Convicts Seven in Jabbar Murder Case

Kochi, Mar 30: The special CBI court, in its judgment in the murder case of 24-year-old Abdul Jabbar, secretary of Perla unit of Youth Congress, convicted seven persons including CPI (M) Kumble area former secretary K Sudhakar Master here on Thursday March 29.

Abdul Basheer alias Abdul Jabbar (24), son of Hasainar from Nalka Kudkoly, who was the Youth Congress president of the Third Ward in Enmakaje panchayat, besides being the secretary of Perla Youth Congress, was hacked to death at Banuttadka near Perla by unknown assailants on the night of November 3, 2009.

Jabbar was coming home in a car belonging to his friend, when a gang of miscreants, intercepted his car and killed him by launching an indiscriminate attack on him with swords.

K Sudhakar Master, CPI (M) regional committee former secretary Abdulla Kunhi, Moideen Kunhi Badiyadka, Abdul Basheer Badoor, Ravi Pacchambala, Mahesh Meenja, and Yashwant Kumar Paivalike were convicted by the court. Two persons had turned approvers and five persons were let off by the court.

Shabbir Perla, Kittu Yane Radhakrishna Paivalike, Baliga Abdul Aziz Paivalike, Rajgopal Paivalike, Farouq Munnur Permude were declared innocent. Ashraf Adyanadka and Razak Katukukke were acquitted due to lack of evidence.

CBI investigations revealed that Jabbar was slain by hired killers due to political rivalry.

Badiyadka police initially investigated the case and were about to close it owing to pressure from politicians and other groups. Jabbar’s father Hasainar pleaded with the court to hand over the case to the CBI which arrested the 14 accused within a month of starting the investigation.
