Mumbai, Sep 21: Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe has said his next posting is not in his hands and that he will work in whatever department the government assigns to him.
Mundhe has been in the spotlight in recent weeks over the FDA’s action against food adulteration across Maharashtra, including operations against adulterated milk and paneer and action against several establishments.
Speaking in a recent television interview, Mundhe was asked what department he would prefer if he were transferred from the FDA. He said the decision regarding his next posting rests with the government.
“Where my next transfer will be is not in my hands. I will work in whatever department the government gives me,” Mundhe said.
He said he does not spend much time thinking about the future and instead focuses on performing his responsibilities in the position he currently holds.
“I do not think much about the future. Wherever I am posted, I try to do good work and fulfil my responsibility,” he said.
Mundhe also said people should stop worrying excessively about the future and focus on the present.
“If any employee or officer is negligent in their work, there is no reason to compromise with such behaviour or show sympathy,” he said.
Mundhe has been overseeing action by the FDA against food adulteration, with enforcement drives focusing particularly on adulteration in milk and dairy products. The administration has also taken action against hotels and other establishments, while notices have reportedly been issued to some Bollywood personalities.
His remarks come amid speculation over another transfer, following his several transfers during his career. There had also been reports that he could be transferred to Rajasthan, though no such transfer has been confirmed in the information available.
Mundhe has also spoken about efforts to curb milk adulteration and the need for stronger enforcement to protect consumers.
His recent enforcement activities have generated considerable public attention in Maharashtra, with citizens and others calling for continuity in action against food adulteration.
