Ichinomiya City, Sep 21: India defeated Bangladesh 3-0 without dropping a single game to enter the men's badminton team event quarter-finals at the Ichinomiya City Municipal Gymnasium here on Monday.

Lakshya Sen gave India the lead with a comfortable victory over Jaman Ayman Ibn before Ayush Shetty extended the advantage against Gourab Singha. Kidambi Srikanth then completed the 3-0 win with a victory over Jumar Al-Amin.

Paris 2024 semi-finalist Lakshya beat Ayman Ibn 21-4, 21-12 to put India 1-0 ahead.

Ayush followed with a convincing 21-4, 21-13 win over Singha to make it 2-0.

Srikanth then sealed the tie with a 21-15, 21-9 victory over Jumar Al-Amin.

India will face hosts Japan in the quarter-finals on Tuesday.

The Indian team progressed without needing to field its doubles combinations, including world No. 5 Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, the reigning Asian Games men's doubles champions.

India, the silver medallists in the team event at Hangzhou 2023, could see several key match-ups against Japan in the quarter-finals. Lakshya could face Kodai Naraoka, while Ayush may meet Yushi Tanaka. Satwik and Chirag could also take on the Japanese pairing of Hiroki Okamura and Takuro Hoki, depending on the tie-ups.

At the Hangzhou Asian Games in 2023, India defeated the Republic of Korea 3-2 in the semi-finals before losing to China in the gold-medal tie to settle for silver.

The Indian women's team will also face Japan in the quarter-finals on Tuesday after defeating Kazakhstan 3-0 in its opening tie on Sunday.
