Bantwal, Sep 22: Women play a significant role in preserving and promoting Hindu culture, customs, religious traditions and nationalism, said social thinker and Gram Vikas Mangaluru division environment head Ramita Suryavanshi.

She was speaking at a religious programme for women organised as part of the public Ganeshotsava celebrations at Vamadapadavu in Bantwal taluk.

In her address, Ramita said women in Indian history and mythology had demonstrated their abilities in various fields. However, she observed that the growing attraction towards modern lifestyles was distancing some women from their roots and cultural values.

She urged women to involve their children in religious practices and nurture national consciousness and religious awareness among them. Women have a responsibility to introduce the next generation to the country’s culture and traditions, she said.

Sandhya Alake, lecturer at Jain Pre-University College, Moodbidri, attended the programme as the chief guest and conveyed her best wishes.

Sulochana G K Bhat and other committee office-bearers were present.
