Nutrition awareness camp organised at Keup as part of Rashtriya Poshan Maah 2026

Mangaluru, Sep 22: As part of Rashtriya Poshan Maah 2026, the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics, Yenepoya Naturopathy and Yogic Sciences College and Hospital (YNYSCH), Yenepoya (Deemed to be University), in association with the Women and Child Development Department, Vittal; Health and Family Welfare Department, Vitla; and Gram Panchayat, Keup, organised a Nutrition Awareness Camp on September 22 at the Gram Panchayat Hall, Keup.

The programme was coordinated and organised by Sumana, regional officer, women and child development department, Vittal, with the support of Anganwadi teachers and supervisors.

The programme was attended by Dr Vishweshwar Bhat, medical officer, PHC Keup, and Anusha, Panchayat PDO, Keup, along with officials and community representatives.

The camp focused on creating awareness about the importance of balanced nutrition, healthy dietary practices and meeting daily nutritional requirements. The programme aimed to encourage the community to adopt healthy and sustainable dietary habits for maintaining overall health and preventing nutrition-related health problems.

Dr Ajith K, associate professor cum dietician, department of nutrition and dietetics, YNYSCH, delivered a nutrition awareness session on the importance of nutrition and the daily nutritional requirements of individuals. He highlighted the importance of consuming a balanced and diverse diet and following healthy eating practices as part of everyday life.

Dr Sunitha D'Souza, assistant professor, department of nutrition and dietetics, YNYSCH, provided individual nutrition consultations to the participants and offered dietary guidance based on their health and nutritional concerns.

The III BNYS students actively supported the camp and assisted the faculty in conducting the activities and interacting with the community members.

Around 100 people benefited from the programme, receiving nutrition education, awareness and individual dietary consultation.

The camp served as a meaningful community outreach initiative under Rashtriya Poshan Maah 2026, promoting nutrition awareness and strengthening collaboration between Yenepoya University, government departments, Anganwadi personnel and the local community.
