Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi

Udupi, Mar 30: A 13-year-old Mumbai-based girl, who was allegedly brought to Manipal for illegal activities, was rescued on Thursday March 29.

Divya (name changed) was allegedly brought to Manipal by her distant relative Navaratna on the pretext of a trip. Manipal police have arrested Navaratna in this regard.

Divya was employeed as a maid in a house in Mumbai. Navaratna along with two other men brought her to Manipal saying that they would take her on a tour of the town.

Sources said that Divya, on realizing the real intentions of the men, escaped from them and tried to commit suicide by jumping on the railway track. The locals who spotted her rushed to save her and informed Manipal police.

In her statement to the police, Divya said that she tried to end her life on fears that she would be used by the men for illegal activities.

Manipal police have registered a case and are investigating.

A girl child born to a poor family is very vulnerable in this mafia stricken society like and the north. All take advantage of their hopeless financial status but the corrupt politicians, ministers, the protector of our culture and money-spinning swamis are doing nothing about it. Only speeches and protests will not solve the real problem that BPLs are facing for their daily existences.
So many young girls give their life to protect their modesty and we the society could do nothing about it. It is very sad indeed.
