Mangaluru, Sep 23: Bajpe police inspector Balakrishna, who was arrested by the Lokayukta police on charges of accepting a bribe to release money seized in a cheating case, has been remanded to 14 days of judicial custody by the court.
According to the details, Balakrishna had allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 25,000 from the victims to return the money seized in connection with a fraud case registered at the Bajpe police station.
The inspector had already accepted an advance of Rs 15,000 from the victims. He was caught red-handed by the Lokayukta police while accepting another installment of Rs 5,000.
When the Lokayukta police produced him before the court on Tuesday, Balakrishna cited health issues and requested to be admitted to a hospital. However, the judge rejected his plea and sent him to judicial custody.
Following his arrest, the inspector has now been officially suspended from duty, sources confirmed.
