Amaravati, Sep 23: Four students were killed and another injured after they were struck by a train in Andhra Pradesh’s Srikakulam district, officials said on Wednesday.

The incident occurred near Tekkali when the students, who were reportedly walking along the railway track, were hit by the Rajya Rani Express. Police said the group failed to notice the approaching train.

The deceased were identified as Visakha Rao, Dileep Kumar, Shiva and Sarath Kumar. They were travelling on foot from Naupada to Tekkali along the railway track.

Body parts were found scattered on the track following the accident.

The injured student was identified as Salmon Raju. He was taken to a government hospital in Tekkali for treatment.

Tekkali Revenue Divisional Officer and police officials visited the accident site and examined the circumstances surrounding the incident. Police have registered a case and launched an investigation.

Locals said the victims were intermediate students studying in Classes 11 and 12 and were aged between 16 and 17 years.

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu expressed shock and grief over the deaths of the four students and conveyed his condolences to their families.

Naidu sought details of the incident from officials, who informed him that the accident occurred after the students failed to notice the approaching train. He was also told that Salmon Raju was undergoing treatment at the Tekkali District Hospital.

The Chief Minister directed officials to ensure that the injured student receives advanced medical treatment and asked them to provide all necessary assistance and support to the affected families.

YSR Congress Party president and former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy also expressed shock and grief over the accident.

He described the deaths of Visakha Rao, Dileep Kumar, Shiva and Sarath Kumar as extremely tragic and conveyed his condolences to their families.

Jagan Mohan Reddy said the pain suffered by the parents and family members of the deceased young students was beyond words and prayed for strength and courage for them to cope with the loss.

He also prayed for eternal peace for the departed souls and sought the best possible medical treatment for the injured student, wishing him a speedy recovery.

Jagan Mohan Reddy urged the state government to stand by the bereaved families and extend all necessary assistance and support to those affected by the tragedy.
