Patna, Sep 23: A former Patna municipal councillor was critically injured after unidentified assailants allegedly opened fire at him in the Buddha Colony police station area here on Wednesday.
The victim, Anil Yadav, was sitting with some supporters in the basement of his apartment complex when two men arrived on a motorcycle and allegedly fired at him. Yadav suffered multiple bullet injuries and was reportedly shot around five times.
He was rushed to Udyan Hospital in Patna, where he is undergoing treatment and remains under medical supervision.
The incident occurred in a residential area, triggering panic among residents. A girls' hostel is located on the first floor of the apartment building where the firing took place, adding to the commotion.
Residents said the assailants fled the spot after the shooting while allegedly carrying firearms. Police from Buddha Colony police station reached the area soon after being alerted and inspected the scene while questioning residents and other witnesses.
Investigators are examining CCTV footage from cameras installed inside the apartment complex and in nearby areas to identify the attackers. Police teams have also launched raids at suspected hideouts as part of efforts to apprehend those involved.
Krishna Murari Prasad, ASP (Law and Order), said a police team had reached the spot after receiving information about the firing.
“The entire matter is being investigated. Police are scrutinising footage from CCTV cameras at the scene and in the surrounding areas. Efforts are underway to identify the perpetrators based on this footage. The police are also conducting raids at suspected hideouts to apprehend the attackers,” he said.
Police are also probing the motive behind the attack and examining different angles, including possible previous enmity.
Yadav is a former councillor from Ward No. 24 of the Patna Municipal Corporation, while his wife is the incumbent councillor from the same ward.
The shooting has also drawn attention as Yadav's son was reportedly shot dead a few days ago. Investigators are examining whether there is any possible connection between the two incidents.
Police deployment has been increased in the area following the attack as efforts continue to identify and arrest the assailants. The investigation is underway.
