Samastipur, Sep 24: Four people have been arrested after a video allegedly showing a minor girl being harassed by a group of youths in Bihar's Samastipur surfaced on social media, prompting police action.

The incident reportedly took place on the embankment bypass road in Jagatsinghpur village under the Karpurigram police station area. The video purportedly shows the girl surrounded by a group of youths and allegedly subjected to inappropriate behaviour and abusive remarks.

According to preliminary information, a minor boy and the girl had reached the embankment on a motorcycle and were talking when a group of youths allegedly confronted them. The boy was allegedly assaulted and fled the spot, after which the girl was allegedly subjected to inappropriate behaviour.

The footage purportedly shows the girl objecting to the youths' conduct and asking them to stop. The youths allegedly questioned her about her address and also allegedly used abusive language when she said she would call her brother.

The incident was reportedly recorded on a mobile phone and later circulated widely on social media. The authenticity of the video, the circumstances surrounding the incident and the individual roles of those seen in the footage are being investigated by police.

The four arrested have been identified as Rahul Kumar, 19, Awadhesh Paswan, 46, Vikas Sharma, 32, and Rambabu Sahni, 38. Police are questioning them as part of the investigation.

Samastipur Superintendent of Police Arvind Pratap Singh said police took cognisance of the viral video and directed the local police station to register an FIR. He said action would be taken against those found responsible.

The incident comes days after a similar case in Bihar's Jamui, where the alleged harassment of two minors sparked concern and raised questions over the treatment of women and girls in public spaces.
