Ahmedabad, Sep 24: An alleged operative of gangster Goldy Brar's gang, wanted in more than 11 serious criminal cases, was arrested in a joint operation by the Ahmedabad Crime Branch, Ahmedabad Rural Special Operations Group (SOG) and Delhi Police, officials said on Thursday.

The accused, identified as Aarif, alias 'Pistol', was apprehended from the Vejalpur area of Ahmedabad in a late-night operation based on intelligence inputs.

According to the Crime Branch, Aarif was wanted in connection with several cases, including attempted murder, firing and extortion. He was also wanted by the Delhi Police Special Cell in connection with an organised extortion racket allegedly run by the gang.

Investigators suspect that Aarif played a key operational role in the syndicate, allegedly facilitating threatening calls through Dubai on behalf of Goldy Brar and assisting in running an extortion network.

Officials said the accused had frequently changed locations and concealed his identity to evade law enforcement agencies operating across multiple states.

His arrest is being viewed by investigators as a breakthrough in efforts to disrupt the gang's extortion network and trace its financial transactions. Joint interrogation is underway to identify his associates and establish the flow of funds, officials said.

Goldy Brar, whose real name is Satinderjit Singh, is a gangster from Punjab who has been linked to several criminal cases, including the 2022 murder of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala. India designated him a terrorist under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act in 2024.

Brar is also alleged to be associated with the Lawrence Bishnoi organised crime group. The US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has announced a reward of up to USD 50,000 for information leading to his arrest in connection with his alleged involvement in the group.
