Udupi, Sep 25: A bus parked near a petrol pump at Dendurkatte in the Manipura gram panchayat limits near Udupi caught fire in the early hours of Friday, September 25.
The fire was noticed in the bus parked close to the petrol pump, following which the staff immediately responded and managed to extinguish the flames.
Two other buses and a tempo were also parked in close proximity to the burning vehicle. With the petrol pump located nearby, the incident could have potentially resulted in a major mishap. However, prompt action by the fuel station staff helped prevent the fire from spreading to the other vehicles and the establishment.
The bus and the petrol pump are reportedly owned by the same person. The fire is suspected to have caused a loss running into lacs of rupees.
The exact cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained. Further details are awaited.
