Kundapur, Sep 25: The remains of Alwyn Prakash Kunder, a native of Kundapur who was allegedly murdered in Sharjah, were brought back to his hometown on Friday, September 25, nearly two months after the incident. The family, which had been making efforts to bring the body home, finally received the mortal remains and performed the last rites amid the presence of relatives and well-wishers.
The body, which was reportedly found in nine pieces, was brought to the Mangaluru International Airport in a sealed coffin in the early hours of Friday. Alwyn's brother Prashanth Kunder received the coffin at the airport. Coastal Development Board chairman M A Gafoor was present and extended assistance to the family.
The mortal remains were later taken by ambulance to Alwyn's residence in Kundapur town. Religious leaders offered prayers, while hundreds of relatives and members of the public gathered to pay their last respects.
As the murder is believed to have taken place nearly two months ago, the family was not permitted to view the face of the deceased. The body had been transported in a completely frozen condition.
Udupi-Chikkamagaluru MP Kota Srinivas Poojary, who paid his final respects, assured the family that every possible effort would be made to trace and apprehend those responsible for the murder.
Following the final prayers at the residence, the mortal remains were taken to the Protestant CSI Krupa burial ground near Shastri Circle in Kundapur, where the final rites were performed in the presence of hundreds of relatives and members of the public.
The gruesome nature of the incident has caused deep concern among local residents, who have urged the authorities to take immediate steps to identify and apprehend all those involved.
According to the family, Alwyn's wife Tina Kunder and their son have reportedly gone missing following the incident and are believed to have left Sharjah and reached India. The family has urged the authorities to trace them and take appropriate legal action.
Coastal Development Board chairman M A Gafoor and other public representatives assured the bereaved family of all possible legal assistance.
The family said the union government has been approached through the ministry of external affairs and urged that the investigation be pursued both in India and abroad to ensure justice.
Alwyn's brother Prashanth Kunder also urged the authorities to trace his missing sister-in-law and establish the circumstances surrounding the murder. Local residents have called for the accused to be traced and arrested at the earliest.
