Udupi, Sep 25: Three students of Dr G Shankar Government Women’s First Grade College and Postgraduate Study Centre, Ajjarakadu, Udupi, won medals at the Mangalore University Inter-Collegiate Wrestling Competition 2026–27, with the college securing the first runner-up position in the overall championship.

Adithi Shetty won gold in the 65-kg category, while Disha D Salian secured silver in the 68-kg category. Maneeksha bagged bronze in the 59-kg category.

The competition was held at Govinda Dasa College, Surathkal, on September 23 and 24 under the Department of Physical Education, Mangalore University.

The students were trained by college physical director Dr Yathish Kumar and sports intern Chandrika Kamble.

Two more women’s hostels planned at Udupi college: Shivaraj Tangadagi

Kannada, culture and backward classes welfare minister Shivaraj Tangadagi has assured that steps will be taken to construct two additional hostels for women students of Dr G Shankar Government Women’s First Grade College and Postgraduate Study Centre, Ajjarakadu.

Addressing students during his visit to the college, Tangadagi urged them to focus on their studies and strive for academic excellence.

He said the state government had sanctioned Rs 32,000 crore for various development works across three districts, highlighting the government’s focus on development.

Former minister Vinay Kumar Sorake, Dr Roshan Kumar Shetty, assistant director of the Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports, Udupi district, college principal Prof Nikethana, Student Welfare Officer Prof Rajendra K, IQAC coordinator Prof Shreemathi Adiga, Prof P B Prasanna, Dr Mani Bhushan, Jayalinga Murthy, teaching and non-teaching staff, and students were present.
