Bangalore/Mangalore, Mar 30: In a major raid operation, the Lokayukta swooped down on RTOs across the state on Friday March 30, including Mangalore.

On the raid in Mangalore, Speaking to Daijiworld, regional transport officer C Mallikarjuna said that it was a sudden raid but the Lokayukta found everything in order at the RTA office.

Mangalore Lokayukta SP D S Jagamayyanavar who led the team in Mangalore said that the raid was part of a state-wide operation on all RTOs in Karnataka. The raid was directed by the Lokayukta.

On Mangalore RTO raid, he said that the Lokayukta offcials did not find anything amiss, and that all receipts and financial records were in order.

"The RTO had collected Rs 3,37,141 in transactions including Rs 47,600 from Talapady checkpost, Rs 28,950 from driving licenses, Rs 1,23,00 as non-transport vehicle fees, Rs 24,491 as transport fees and Rs 1,12,600 as non-transport fees," he said, adding, "Receipts of all these transactions were found to be in order."

The officials also checked the cash declaration register, wherein every RTO employee has to enter the money in his or her possession every morning and do the same while leaving in the evening. If there is any difference in the amount, he or she is subjected to enquiry.

The Lokayukta SP told Daijiworld that this register was also clear.

He further said that in the last raid on Mangalore RTO in November 2010, four employees had been caught, but this time everything was in place.

The team comprised Lokayukta inspectors Dilip Kumar, Umesh Shet, Udaynayak and other policemen. The operation which began at around 3 pm lasted for about one-and-a half hours, during which all RTO records were checked.

RTOs of Bangalore, Tumkur, Raichur, Gadag, Kolar, Chitradurga, Koppal and other districts were also raided.

In Bangalore alone, a team of six DySPs and 22 inspectors raided 11 RTO offices across the city. The team was led by SP Shivashankar.

The raid operation follows several complaints lodged by the general public against corrupt officials in the RTO.

All the work and many other departments including thr office of sub registrar is done through the agents who are available in plenty outside such offices. The officials have fixed rate for every work. Officials are aware that they cannot be cheated. In these circumstance, it is quite correct to say that nothing fishy was found at the RTO. What a great achievement for Lokayukta. Is the Lokayukta sincere, only the god can answer.

This raid seems to exhibit incompetency of Lokayukta. Most of the works in RTO in Mangalore are done thro’ the agents and the accumulated bribe money (daily collection) may be collected from the agents outside the office. Therefore obviously Lokayukta could not find anything wrong in Mangalore. Come on, Wake up Lokayukta !!!

I wish there could have been a raid to monitor the way in which the RTO employee work. The RTO officials themselves do not know what they are doing in that office. One says your work will be done by so and so person, and that so and so person says this is not my job, go to another. A common man has to keep running from counter to counter.
    This is my personal experience.

After seeing Dr. Santosh Heggade, We all feel that all Lokayukta dept is honest and clean. Actually they are more corrupted then other departments. They will inform in advance to the departments that they are gonna raid the departments in this schedule and ask them to prepare for the same. This is the fact.

It is the best (worst) joke of the century. I can arrive at 3 possible conclusions :
    1) The Lokayukta team was either totally dumb or equally corrupt.
    2) There is black sheep among the Lokayukta & RTO got prior information on the impending raid.
    3) This was a mere drama stage-managed by both parties to fool general public.

    Jai ho!

    Dear friends,
Please do not generalise the statements. Let it be Govt office, Political party or any other place. All are not corrupt but some of them certainly. Those who are corrupt must be punished. We should stick on to that principle. Now if BSY is corrupt, what about Kumaraswamy,Dharamsingh, Devegowda, Bangarappa. Everyone has done it. Now let us fight and try to stop it. Let it not be a precedent and let us not think why they were not punished. Past has gone fast. Let us think of present and plan for better tomorrow.
One more thing. M.r Santhosh hegde is honest. Even I do agree abd respect him But, if you take his brother, is he not taking money without accountability? See now everone of us have to think and act accordingly. If we stop paying and stop taking, the surroundings would become clean. Let us stop contradicting and fighting/arguing over thespilt milk. Let us make a beginning for cleaner INDIA.

    With regards,
    Nagesh

I get suspicious on lokayukta itself , if they give clean chit to RTO/ revenue / police depts. They know their own way how to cheat lokayukta without being caught.

The Lokayukta people might have forgotten to check the pockets and bags of the RTO staff and had they checked it they would have found money in the form of bribe. A simple example for the exhorbitant amount being demanded by the RTO people is that a simple Form B extract which costs only Rs. 10 is being charged anywhere between Rs. 200 to Rs.250. It is high time that electronic payment systems and receipts of forms and documents electronically directly by the beneficiary be introduced in government departments in order to put a full stop on corruption.

The trouble with most of these officials is that they have paid a huge bribe,(often in lacs)to get their job or posting as RTOs. First they try to make good that money. After that they are no better than beasts that have tasted blood... When will all this end...?!

A most welcome move. They are the prime cause for accidents by issuing driving licences to the unqualified and letting age old vehicles to ply and make highways morgues.

If only the Baikampady Police Station is raided and the assets of cops there is verified for the daily Rs 1 lac bribe they receive from the diesel mafia, which steals the fuel from the thousands of trucks parked there.
