Mangaluru, Sep 26: St. Theresa’s School, Bendur, celebrated its Primary School Annual Day for students of grades 3 to 5 with the inspiring theme ‘Whispers of Resilience'. The programme was a vibrant celebration of courage, hope, imagination and the ability to rise above challenges and move forward with strength.
The celebration commenced with a dignified guard of honour, setting a tone of pride, discipline and celebration. This was followed by a serene and spiritually uplifting welcome and prayer dance presented by the talented students of grade 3. Blending hospitality with devotion, the young performers presented a graceful sequence accompanied by live singing. Through fluid movements, traditional attire, expressive mudras and radiant smiles, they beautifully conveyed the spirit of Atithi Devo Bhava while invoking the blessings of the almighty. The performance received an enthusiastic response from the gathering.
The formal programme began with a warm welcome by the principal Sr Lourdes, who introduced the chief guest Chethan. The chief guest was honoured with a sapling, symbolising growth, hope and the nurturing of young minds.
Addressing the gathering, the chief guest shared his joy at being part of the celebration, particularly as a parent. Recalling the journey of children from early childhood to confident young individuals, he expressed appreciation for the school and its holistic approach to education. He highlighted the visionary management, dedicated teaching faculty, supportive PTA, sports facilities and efficient traffic management as significant strengths of the institution.
Emphasising the role of parents and teachers in a child’s development, he encouraged parents to be patient, spend quality time with their children and nurture their curiosity. He urged the students to enjoy every moment of their school years, make lasting friendships and have the courage to try new things. He reminded parents that children grow up quickly and that the values and encouragement they receive today help prepare them to face the world with confidence.
‘Whispers of Resilience’ – A journey of hope
The highlight of the evening was the spectacular presentation by the students of grades 4 and 5, centred on the theme ‘Whispers of Resilience'.
The students of grade 5 opened the main presentation with a vibrant programme structured around three inspiring chapters — Imagination, environmental responsibility and patriotism.
The first chapter, ‘Nova Imagination,’ celebrated the limitless imagination of childhood. Through dance, drama, creative formations and expressive movements, the students portrayed how imagination gives birth to creativity, dreams and endless possibilities.
The second chapter turned the audience’s attention to the beauty and fragility of the environment. Through a thoughtful blend of dance and drama, the students highlighted the importance of conserving natural resources, reducing pollution and protecting Mother Earth. Their message was clear and compelling: Earth is our home, and caring for it is everyone’s responsibility.
The final chapter celebrated patriotism through powerful music, energetic choreography and heartfelt expressions. The students expressed their love and respect for the nation while conveying that true patriotism is reflected in responsible citizenship and positive contributions to society.
Through the seamless integration of dance, drama, music and narration, grade 5 transformed the stage into a journey that encouraged the audience to imagine boldly, care deeply, serve selflessly and rise stronger together.
A child’s journey – From home to hope
The students of grade 4 continued the theme through a creative blend of skit, narration and diverse dance forms. Their presentation traced the journey of a child through three significant stages—the values received at home, the learning and experiences gained at school, and a future filled with hope and possibilities.
The narrative placed special emphasis on the emotional needs of children. It highlighted that beyond material comforts, every child longs for a parent’s time, attention, affection and understanding. The presentation reminded parents of the importance of listening to children, making them feel valued and creating a nurturing home environment.
The role of teachers was equally celebrated. Portrayed as second mothers, teachers were shown as guides who provide patience, encouragement and care. The presentation conveyed that corrections, when offered with understanding and compassion, can shape character, strengthen confidence and help children become resilient individuals.
The performance culminated in a powerful visual and emotional message: every child holds a blank page, and with the values learnt at home, the lessons gained at school and the courage to face challenges, that page can be filled with hope for a brighter tomorrow.
The programme concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks, followed by the national anthem, bringing the celebration to a dignified close.
‘Whispers of Resilience’ was more than an Annual Day presentation. It was a celebration of the strength within every child—the courage to begin, the resilience to persevere and the hope to dream of a brighter tomorrow. Through their creativity and confident performances, the students reminded everyone that resilience is not always loud; sometimes, it begins as a quiet whisper of hope within a child.
