Kaup, Sep 27: A mother and her two children were injured, one of them critically, after the rickshaw they were travelling in collided with a parked tempo on the National Highway 66 flyover here on Saturday evening.

The injured have been identified as Sandhya and her children, Gayan and Suvith, residents of Uchila. Suvith's condition is reportedly critical.

The incident occurred when the rickshaw, heading from Uchila towards Udupi, crashed into a Kaup municipality tempo parked on the roadside. It is gathered that the tempo was stationed there as part of a drive to clear banners along the highway.

The impact of the collision left the rickshaw completely mangled, causing a brief traffic disruption on the national highway. Locals and Kaup police rushed to the spot and helped clear the traffic block.

With the assistance of locals Soori Shetty and Nagaraj, the injured were shifted to a hospital in Udupi in an ambulance belonging to the primary health centre.

A case has been registered at the Kaup police station.
