Kasargod, Sep 27: A 21-year-old migrant worker from West Bengal drowned in the Uppala river while bathing on Sunday, while his friend managed to escape.
The deceased has been identified as Vishal (21), who was employed at a marble shop in Uppala.
According to reports, Vishal and two of his colleagues went to the Uppala river for a bath at around 11 am on Sunday. While one of them remained on the riverbank, Vishal and another friend entered the water.
During the bath, Vishal was suddenly caught in a strong current and began to drown. His friend immediately attempted to rescue him but was unsuccessful.
The frightened colleagues alerted local residents, following which Fire and Rescue Services personnel from Uppala rushed to the spot and launched a search operation.
After a search, the fire personnel recovered Vishal’s body from the river.
Manjeshwar police have registered a case in connection with the incident.
