Toronto, Sep 28: The Konkan Organization of Toronto (KOT) celebrated its 15th year anniversary Monthi Fest 2026, bringing the community together to honor Mother Mary, celebrate the new harvest (Novem), and preserve the rich heritage of Konkani culture.

The Eucharistic celebration commenced at St Martin De Porres Catholic Church with a solemn procession, during which a beautifully decorated hand-held carriage bearing the statue of Mother Mary was carried by devotees.

The faithful gathered in prayer and song, singing ‘Sakkad Sangata Melyam', as they accompanied the procession. Following the traditional showering of flowers, the Konkani mass was celebrated, led by the main celebrant by Fr Roshan D'Souza and concelebrated by Fr Anthony Gonsalves.

The celebration was marked by a joyful and reverent atmosphere, with the choir’s harmonious voices and uplifting choral music adding beauty and solemnity to the Eucharistic celebration led by Melwyn Sequeira.

Following the church celebration, guests proceeded to Qssis Banquet Hall for the cultural program. The program commenced with the introduction of the KOT executive committee members, along with the presentation of the aspiring new youth committee, followed by Fr Roshan bestowing the traditional blessing of the novem. The blessed novem milk was then distributed to all the guests.

KOT president, Melwin Lobo, then addressed the gathering and shared his vision for the organization. He emphasized, "Monthi Fest is very special because it brings together our faith, Konkani heritage, traditions, and the people who make our community feel like family. It is a beautiful opportunity to celebrate our roots and pass our values and traditions on to the next generation.” He further expressed his heartfelt vision for KOT, “To create a welcoming community where people of all ages feel connected, valued, and encouraged to participate. I hope we can continue to grow together, strengthen our family bonds, and build a united Konkani community filled with love, friendship, and belonging for generations to come.”

The cultural performances were a vibrant and entertaining highlight of the evening, bringing together participants of all ages. Children, youth, adults, and seniors took to the stage to showcase their talents through a wonderful variety of performances. Their enthusiasm, creativity, and dedication were warmly appreciated by the audience, creating an atmosphere filled with joy, laughter, and community spirit. Our sponsors were felicitated during the cultural program for their generosity and support, without whom this event would not be possible.

The evening was skillfully hosted by emcee Sheldon D’Souza, whose lively presence, engaging interactions, and good humour kept the audience entertained throughout the programme. Adding to the excitement were numerous spot prizes, which brought moments of anticipation and delight among the guests. The evening also featured an exciting raffle draw, with guests eagerly looking forward to the announcement of the lucky winners.

Guests were treated to a delicious and sumptuous dinner catered by Konkan Delite, offering a wonderful opportunity for everyone to gather, socialize, and enjoy the evening together. As the celebrations continued, DJ Walter took the entertainment to the next level with an enjoyable selection of music that had guests of all ages on the dance floor. The evening concluded on a high note, with music, dancing, laughter, and fellowship bringing the 15th anniversary Monthi Fest celebrations to a memorable close.

Key highlights of the cultural event

Tribute: Honoring late KOT former executive member (Vice president) Anecleat Ashley Vaz who served during 2021–2023 and 2024–2025.

Youth committee: The official launch of the KOT youth committee, encouraging greater youth participation and leadership within the community.

Online Konkani classes: The announcement of an 8-week beginner Konkani language course for youth aged 10 and above, aimed at promoting and preserving the Konkani language among the younger generation.

Past executive members: Former KOT executive committee members were recognized and honored for their dedicated service, valuable contributions and continued support to the organization.

Scholarship awards: Scholarship awards were presented to Kaelan Fernandes and Marvin Fernandes, generously sponsored by Dr Carol Castelino and Jovita Pinto.

Expressive group dance performance by the KOT choir group Harmony in Motion.

High-energy live band performance by Monkey Business.

DJ dance floor with DJ Walter.

The successful celebration concluded with fellowship, dancing, and renewed community spirit.
