Mangaluru, Sep 28: The second additional district and sessions court has convicted five persons and acquitted five others in connection with the murder of Madoor Yusuf inside the Mangaluru sub-jail in 2015.
The incident occurred on November 2, 2015, when Yusuf was murdered inside the sub-jail under the Barke police station limits. A case was registered at the Barke police station under IPC sections 143, 144, 147, 148, 353, 427, and 302 read with 149.
The investigating officer, then ACP Tilak Chandra, had filed a chargesheet against 10 accused before the second additional district and sessions court on January 28, 2016.
Following the trial, the court pronounced its verdict on Monday, September 28, convicting Lithesh Poojary, Shobharaj, Yuvaraj, Pradeep, and Umesh Kombar after the charges against them were proven. The quantum of sentence for the convicts is yet to be pronounced.
Meanwhile, the court acquitted Sharan Poojary, Mahesh Kumar, Kamalaksha Poojary, Latheesh, and Sathish Poojary (who is now deceased) of the charges. Public prosecutor Mohan argued the case on behalf of the government.
