Bengaluru, Sep 28: With a strong commitment to serving humanity and protecting the environment, the NSS Unit of St. Charles Women’s PU College, Bengaluru, observed NSS Day Month through a series of meaningful initiatives focused on sustainability, literacy, health awareness and social responsibility.

Under the guidance of principal Sr Elizabeth Leo and NSS Programme Officer Mary Medona D’Couto, the celebrations included an Organ and Blood Donation Awareness and Orientation Programme conducted by Dr Tricha Kulhalli, Pathologist and AGM – Trilife Clinical Operations, Bengaluru. The programme highlighted the importance of organ and blood donation and encouraged students to spread awareness about these life-saving causes.

As part of Plastic-Free Day, students participated in an eco-friendly fashion walk featuring biodegradable and sustainable materials. They also took the “Go Green, Go Eco-Friendly” pledge and promoted sustainable practices on campus, including the use of steel lunch boxes and glass water bottles. An awareness march and mime performance further conveyed the message of environmental responsibility.

Bicycle Day promoted sustainable transportation and healthy living. Yashhaswini, Founder of BizGenius Zone, entrepreneur and cycling trainer, interacted with students and NSS volunteers, encouraging them to embrace cycling and other eco-friendly modes of mobility.

On International Literacy Day, NSS volunteers visited Nirmala Primary School, where they distributed books and stationery and presented a mime highlighting the importance of education and literacy. A used-clothes collection drive in collaboration with Gudswap also encouraged the values of reuse, sharing and community care.

In a special assembly, three community helpers were honoured for their dedicated service, recognising their valuable contribution to society and fostering among students a deeper respect for every profession and the dignity of labour.

Through these initiatives, the NSS Unit reaffirmed its motto, “Not Me, But You,” inspiring students to become compassionate, responsible and environmentally conscious citizens committed to meaningful service to society.
