Udupi, Sep 29: Nandalike Pandu, a popular buffalo that made a name for itself in the Kambala racing circuit and enjoyed a large fan following, died of age-related health issues in the early hours of Monday. He was 23.
Known for his speed in the rope race category, Pandu achieved several milestones on the Kambala track. He won the series championship in the junior rope race category for two consecutive years before making his mark in the senior category with his impressive performances.

Pandu began his Kambala career at the residence of Jeevandas Adyanthaya in Karkala. Aththur Manmatha Shetty later brought him into his Kambala journey. Pandu subsequently entered the senior category under Vishwanath Shetty of Karinje, where he established himself as one of the prominent buffaloes in the sport.
By the time Pandu joined the stable of Nandalike Srikanth Bhat, he had already earned a legendary reputation among Kambala enthusiasts.
Pandu competed alongside renowned Kambala buffaloes, including Chenna Mode, and consistently attracted attention for his speed. Former Kambala racer Nakre Jayakar Madiwal won several medals racing with Pandu.
Around three years ago, Pandu won his last medal at the Hokkadigoli Kambala. He later retired from racing and spent his final years at the stable of Nandalike Srikanth Bhat.
