Nagoya, Sep 29: India secured two medals in the men's javelin throw at the Asian Games 2026, with Yashvir Singh winning the silver medal and Rohit Yadav claiming bronze.

Sri Lanka's Pathirage won the gold medal with a remarkable throw of 88.55 metres, overtaking Yashvir, who had led the standings for much of the competition.

By the third attempt, Rohit was leading with a throw of 84.35 metres, followed by Yashvir at 83.56 metres and Pathirage at 83.34 metres. Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem was fourth with 80.29 metres.

However, Pathirage changed the standings with his fourth attempt, recording 88.33 metres before improving his mark to 88.55 metres in his final attempt to secure the gold.

Earlier in the day, India's Vithya Ramraj won bronze in the women's 400m hurdles and broke P T Usha's 42-year-old national record.

Ramraj clocked 54.75 seconds to better Usha's 55.42-second mark recorded at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics.

Speaking after her performance, Ramraj said she was delighted to break the record and credited her coach and faith for helping her deliver her best performance.

"I know about it (breaking the national record); I am so happy. In the previous Asian Games, it was my first event; my coach was not with me then, but today, my coach is here. God is with me, my coach is with me, so that made the track feel marvellous," she said.
