Mangaluru, Sep 29: The Nanthoor junction, a major intersection connecting the national highway and city roads in the heart of Mangaluru, has turned into a perilous accident zone, raising serious concerns over the negligence of the concerned authorities.

Unscientific cement blocks placed to form circles and dividers at the junction are primarily being blamed for the continuous mishaps. While the junction witnesses heavy vehicular movement, the presence of traffic police and daylight make navigation manageable during the day. However, the real danger unfolds at night.

Due to frequent power outages in the area, the junction is often plunged into darkness. The cement blocks, which completely lack road safety paint or reflectors, become invisible to approaching motorists, leading to frequent accidents.

Citizens are expressing severe outrage against the national highway and Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) officials. The public is questioning why these blocks were placed without basic safety measures like reflectors, and why the authorities have turned a blind eye to the issue despite the rising number of accidents. Commuters are asking if the concerned departments should not be held directly accountable for the accidents and the blatant disregard for human lives.

Furthermore, the busy junction severely lacks basic traffic markings. There are no zebra crossings for pedestrians, and no stop lines to guide vehicles when the traffic signals turn red, adding to the daily chaos.

Motorists and the general public have strongly urged the concerned departments to take immediate note of the issue and implement corrective measures before a major tragedy strikes.
