Jammu, Sep 30: Four Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel, including an assistant commandant, were killed after a colleague allegedly opened fire at the Sewa-III hydroelectric power project in Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday evening.

The incident took place around 7.30pm at the hydroelectric project located in Mashka village in Basohli, near the Jammu and Kashmir-Himachal Pradesh border, officials said.

According to preliminary information, CISF Head Constable Abhidesh Kumar allegedly opened fire from his service rifle following an argument with some of his colleagues.

Four personnel sustained critical gunshot injuries and were rushed to the nearby NHPC hospital, where they later succumbed to their injuries, officials said.

The deceased have been identified as Assistant Commandant Ankit Kumar Pandey, Sub-Inspector Lakshman Singh and constables Rafiq Ahmed and Sandeep Kumar.

Following the firing, Kumar was overpowered by his colleagues and subsequently arrested. The service weapon allegedly used in the incident was also seized, officials said.

Senior CISF and police officers rushed to the scene following the incident. Officials said the exact circumstances that led to the argument and subsequent firing are being ascertained, and an investigation is underway.
