Rs.33 Lakh Looted from Bank Van

Lucknow, Mar 31 (IANS): Four car-borne robbers Saturday looted Rs.33 lakh from a cash van of Axis Bank when its employee was about to load money into an ATM in Uttar Pradesh's Meerut city, police said.

The robbers struck when the van stopped outside an ATM near Anand Hospital on Garh Road and bank employee Ashish Kumar got off the vehicle to take out sacks containing cash.

Four people came in a car, shot at Ashish Kumar and took the cash bags from the van and sped away, an official said.

Senior Superintendent of Police, Meerut, K. Satyanarayan told IANS: "We are on the look out for the get-away vehicle the criminals used."

The van left the bank headquarters with Rs.40 lakh and loaded Rs.6 lakh at one ATM and Rs.1 lakh at another before reaching the ATM near which the incident took place.
