Udupi, Oct 1: A Russian national who was found collapsed and in a helpless condition on the Kallianpur–Santhekatte service road was produced before the district court and later handed over to the Goa police, as a case against him in Goa is currently under trial.

Social worker Nityananda Olakadu rescued the Russian national at Santhekatte, admitted him to the District Hospital in Ajjarkad and informed the City police station. During police inquiry, it was found that the tourist's entry permit had expired, his travel document had become inactive, and a case against him was pending trial in Goa.

The foreign national, who was unwell, was provided treatment at the district hospital. During this period, he went missing from the hospital, reportedly out of fear of the criminal case. Later, police found him wandering in the city, took him into custody and admitted him to the hospital again.

As per the directions of superintendent of police Hariram Shankar, arrangements were made for the foreign national to recuperate at the Hosabelaku Rehabilitation Centre in Karkala after he recovered. He was also provided an opportunity to speak over the phone with his mother in Russia.

Tanula Tarun, coordinator of the rehabilitation centre, provided food and other assistance to the foreign national. Two police personnel were deployed for his security.
