Udupi, Oct 1: Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), an Institution of Eminence Deemed to be University, has strengthened its standing in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2027, moving to the 551-600 global band from the 601-800 band.
MAHE has also improved its national ranking, moving up to 7th from 11th among Indian institutions in the latest rankings. The improvement comes despite an increase in the number of participating Indian institutions, from 128 in 2026 to 143 in 2027.


MAHE has recorded improvements across the Teaching, Research Environment, Research Quality, International Outlook and Industry pillars. Notably, the Research Quality score rose from 56.4 in 2026 to 62.0 in 2027, underscoring the University’s continued focus on strengthening the quality, impact and visibility of its research.

Rao, vice chancellor, MAHE, said, “MAHE’s improved position in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2027 reflects our sustained efforts to strengthen teaching, research quality and industry engagement. The improvement in our Research Quality score is particularly encouraging and reinforces our commitment to impactful research and to strengthening our contribution to society. We will continue to build on this progress through academic excellence, interdisciplinary research, global collaborations and meaningful industry partnerships.”
THE World University Rankings evaluate universities across a range of performance indicators, including teaching, research environment, research quality, international outlook, and industry. MAHE’s improved position in the 2027 edition reflects its continued efforts to strengthen its academic and research performance across these indicators.
