Shivamogga, Oct 2: The Diocesan Service of Communion (DSC) of the Diocese of Shimoga organised the National Intercessory Prayer Day on October 2 at Sannidhi Pastoral Centre, Shivamogga.
The prayer gathering brought together DSC leaders and intercessory prayer leaders from different deaneries of the diocese to pray for the Church, the nation, and the needs of the world.
The programme began with an introduction by Fr Franklin D’Souza, spiritual director of the Diocesan Service of Communion. Reflecting on Genesis 18:16–33, Fr. Franklin spoke about Abraham’s intercession before God for the people of Sodom and Gomorrah. He highlighted the importance of standing before God in prayer on behalf of others and explained that intercessory prayer is an essential expression of Christian faith, love, and mission.

John Lobo, DSC coordinator, along with the DSC team, led the participants in intercessory prayer. Special intentions were offered for the Holy Father, bishops, priests, religious, the Church, the nation and its leaders, youth, families, and for peace in the world. Prayers were also offered for those facing various difficulties and for the spiritual and pastoral needs of the Church.
Fr Franklin D’Souza led a special session of prayer for deliverance, healing, and anointing, entrusting the personal and collective intentions of the participants to the mercy and healing power of God.
The day of prayer concluded with the celebration of the holy Eucharist, presided over by Fr Franklin D’Souza. In his reflection, he encouraged the participants to continue the ministry of intercession with faith, perseverance, humility, and trust in God, especially by praying for those who are unable to pray for themselves.
Five DSC leaders, along with intercessory prayer leaders from different deaneries, participated in the programme. The gathering provided an opportunity for the participants to deepen their commitment to the ministry of intercession and to experience communion through prayer.
Fr Franklin D’Souza expressed his gratitude to Fr Venil D’Silva, director of Sannidhi, and his collaborators for their support and hospitality in facilitating the prayer programme.
The participants described the National Intercessory Prayer Day as a meaningful and spiritually enriching experience. The programme concluded with lunch.
