Kandla, Oct 2: The Deendayal Port Authority (DPA) at Kandla has set a new national record by handling 9,63,951 metric tonnes (MT) of cargo in a single day.
The latest achievement surpassed the port’s previous national record of 9,03,904 MT, set on September 7, 2026, by 60,047 MT.

DPA Kandla announced the achievement on Friday through a post on X, describing it as another milestone in India’s maritime operations. The port authority said the record reflected its continued efforts to enhance cargo-handling capacity and operational efficiency.
The latest record comes less than a month after the port achieved its previous single-day record. Earlier in September, DPA Kandla also reported an all-time high of 12.7 million MT in transhipment through ship-to-ship operations up to September 1.
The port has also crossed the 70 million MT cargo-handling mark, recording 70.03 million MT. According to official data cited by the port, DPA Kandla became the fastest among India’s major ports to reach the milestone, achieving it 32 days earlier than the corresponding period in the previous financial year. Cargo handling registered a 23.02 per cent year-on-year growth.
DPA Kandla also recorded strong financial and traffic performance in 2025-26. Its operating income rose to Rs 3,144.31 crore from Rs 2,820.02 crore in 2024-25, while operating surplus increased to Rs 1,884.77 crore from Rs 1,812.64 crore.
The port posted a net surplus after tax and related adjustments of Rs 1,402.92 crore in 2025-26, compared with Rs 1,446.18 crore in the previous year. Net surplus before tax increased to Rs 2,150.92 crore from Rs 1,877.28 crore, while income tax rose to Rs 748 crore from Rs 431.10 crore.
DPA handled 160.11 million tonnes of traffic in 2025-26, compared with 150.16 million tonnes in 2024-25. Traffic has risen from 127.1 million tonnes in 2021-22, reflecting sustained growth in cargo movement through the port.
The series of operational and financial milestones underscores DPA Kandla’s expanding role in India’s maritime and logistics network.
