Nagoya, Oct 3: Indian archer Neeraj Chauhan defeated compatriot Dhiraj Bommadevara 6-4 to win the bronze medal in the men's individual recurve event at the Asian Games in Nagoya, Japan, on Saturday.

Neeraj became only the second Indian male archer after Tarundeep Rai to win an individual recurve medal at the Asian Games.

Top seed Dhiraj had earlier lost 3-7 to Paris Olympics bronze medallist Lee Woo Seok of South Korea in the first semifinal. Neeraj was beaten 1-7 by Japan's Junya Nakanishi in the other semifinal.

Dhiraj had reached the semifinals after defeating Uzbekistan's Amirkhon Sadikov in the quarterfinals, while Neeraj secured his semifinal berth with a victory over Bhutan's Lam Dorji.

Neeraj then held his nerve in the all-Indian bronze-medal contest to prevail 6-4 and secure his place in the Asian Games record books.
