Panaji, Oct 3: Goa Police have received two 15-metre fast patrol boats costing Rs 3 crore to strengthen coastal security along the state's coastline.

At present, the Coastal Security Police have only one operational 15-metre fast interceptor boat, ‘Chandreshwar’, for patrolling duties.

DGP Alok Kumar said the newly received vessels would first be put on trial and inducted into the force at the earliest.

“The fast interceptor boats will be used for patrolling along the state’s coastline, covering the jurisdiction of coastal security police stations in accordance with the weekly patrolling pattern drawn by the police department,” a senior police officer said.

Goa Police invited bidders on Friday for the construction of the fast patrol boats.

The successful bidder will also be required to provide five days of training in Goa to 10 Goa Police personnel on the operation and first-line maintenance of the vessels.
