19-year-old Odisha worker dies after boiler gas incident at Kumble factory; two hurt, one critical

Kasargod, Oct 4: A 19-year-old worker was killed and two others injured after gas was released with force from a boiler at a factory in the Ananthapur industrial area of Kumbla on Sunday morning.

The deceased has been identified as Maheshwar (19), a native of Odisha. Among the injured, Tanuji (24) is in critical condition, while Siddhananda (21) also sustained injuries.

The accident occurred at around 10 am at the Oxygen Promax factory in the Ananthapur Industrial Estate.

The factory manufactures various value-added products from chicken waste. According to the information available, gas was suddenly released with great force from the factory’s boiler, throwing Maheshwar, who was working nearby, into a deep pit filled with chicken waste.

Seeing Maheshwar fall into the pit, Tanuji and Siddhananda rushed to his rescue but were also injured in the process. Other workers at the factory subsequently pulled all three men out of the pit and rushed them to hospital.

Maheshwar was admitted to hospital but succumbed to his injuries despite treatment.

Tanuji, who sustained serious injuries, has been shifted to a hospital in Mangaluru, where his condition is reported to be critical. Siddhananda is undergoing treatment at the Kumble District Cooperative Hospital.
