Udupi: Six arrested for allegedly defrauding e-mobility firm of Rs 12 lac in Manipal

Udupi, Oct 4: Manipal police have arrested six persons in connection with an alleged fraud involving the collection of passenger fares through a fake QR code at the college campus in Manipal.

According to the complaint filed by the human resources manager of Indeanta E-Mobility Pvt Ltd, the company operates battery-operated vehicles for the transportation of students and parents within the MIT campus in Shivalli village, Udupi taluk.

The complaint alleges that seven employees of the company, from April 1, 2026, collected passenger fares without using the company’s authorised QR code. Instead, they allegedly created a separate fake transaction account and a personal merchant QR code and collected payments made by passengers.

The amount collected through the allegedly unauthorised QR code was reportedly diverted to the bank account of Aishwarya, wife of accused Muthanna Adinavar. The complainant alleged that the accused subsequently shared the money among themselves, causing a loss of around Rs 12 lac to the company.

Based on the complaint, Manipal police registered a case.

As part of the investigation, PSI (Investigation) Shambhulingayya M of Manipal police arrested six accused on October 2. The arrested persons have been identified as Siddamurthy G (29), Shivraj Naik (30), Sudeep (30), Jitesh L Kanchan (29), Muthanna Adinavar (32) and M B Avinash (24).

The accused were produced before the jurisdictional court. Police subsequently obtained their custody for further investigation. The investigation is under way.
