Udupi, Oct 5: Shankerpura jasmine, which has often attracted attention for its high prices, is now making headlines for a sharp fall in rates.
The demand for jasmine has declined significantly due to Pitru Paksha and the absence of any major festivals after Ganeshotsava. Although there has been no shortage of rain, flower production has increased, resulting in an abundant supply of jasmine in the market. However, prices have witnessed a significant decline.

Jasmine, which had once touched prices of up to Rs 3,000 per atte in the market, earning a reputation for being as valuable as gold, is now being sold at a maximum of Rs 240 to Rs 250 per atte. At the growers' association, the flowers are being sold for just Rs 150 to Rs 180 per atte.
The Navaratri festival will begin from next week, and demand for jasmine flowers is expected to rise again. Flower shop owners in Udupi said that prices could increase by up to ten times from the current rates.
