Bantwal, Oct 5: A woman sustained severe injuries and a house was completely damaged following a lightning strike at Anildadda in Ajjibettu village of the taluk on the morning of Monday, October 5.

The incident occurred around 6 am when lightning struck the tiled house belonging to Nagesh Kulal. The sheer impact of the strike destroyed the roof and damaged various items inside the house.

Nagesh's wife, Kushalakshi, who was engaged in cooking in the kitchen at the time, was grievously injured. She was immediately rushed to the Bantwal government hospital for first aid. Based on the doctor's advice, she was later shifted to a hospital in Mangaluru for advanced care, where she is currently undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit (ICU).

At the time of the strike, Nagesh had gone to his father's house located nearby. The couple resided alone in the house. Since there are no other houses in the immediate vicinity, further danger was averted.

Concerned officials visited the spot and conducted an inspection to assess the extent of the damage.
