Mangaluru, Oct 5: A district-level wrestling tournament was successfully held at the Mangala Badminton Indoor Stadium here on Monday, October 5, bringing together young wrestling talents from across Dakshina Kannada.
The tournament was jointly organised by the Dakshina Kannada district administration, zilla panchayat Mangaluru, the deputy director’s office of school education, Mangaluru, the Mangaluru south zone block education officer’s office, and Sri Ramakrishna Aided High School, Pavoor.












































Karnataka Cashew Development Corporation chairperson Mamatha Gatti, K N Alva, president of the Threesakthi Vidyavardhaka Sangha, Pavoor-Harekala, and deputy director of school education Shashidhar, along with other dignitaries, inaugurated the event by lighting the ceremonial lamp and wished the young participants success.
Speaking on the occasion, programme coordinator Tyagam Harekala stated that around 250 students from 60 schools across the district participated in the tournament. Students from primary and high school sections in the under-14 and under-17 categories, including both boys and girls, took part in the competitions.
He added that the tournament has been successfully organised for the past five years, providing young athletes with a platform to showcase their wrestling talent, gain competitive experience, and nurture a strong sporting spirit.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students and teachers, creating an encouraging environment for the young wrestlers and highlighting the growing interest in wrestling among school students in the district.
District physical education officer Vishnu Narayana Hebbar, district physical education teachers’ association president Harish Rai, subject inspector Lakshminarayan, taluk physical education teachers’ association president Shekhar Kadtal, aided school and college employees’ association president K M K Manjanady, environmentalist Krishnappa, district drawing teachers’ association secretary Rafiq Tumbe, taluk physical education inspector Jayashree, primary school teachers’ association president Mohan Shirlal, Mangaluru south zone CRP Vilma D’Souza, Sri Ramakrishna Aided High School headmistress Mohini, aided higher primary school headmistress Premalatha, Panjila Guri alumni association president Narasimha Nayak, social worker Chittaranjan Mada, and others were present.
