Bangalore, Apr 1: The first rains in some parts of Karnataka have brought some relief to the people, especially to farmers, but not without causing sorrow too. The rains took the lives of three people, including a girl, in various districts.

Rain accompanied by a hailstorm poured in Aralakoodu, Aloor, and Belur of Hassan district killing mother and daughter. Ratna (42) and her daughter Preethi (14) were travelling in a tempo, when a tree fell due to the heavy storm and crashed on the vehicle.

A report from Halebeedu claimed that a 50-year-old farmer died due to lightning.

Reports received by Daijiworld on late Saturday night confirmed that atleast 13 people were injured in the hailstorm and lightning.

As it rained the most in Hassan-Sakleshpur area, coffee growers are a happy lot. "This is called 'Revathi' rain, which is very good for coffee. It will help the coffee flowers to bloom, indicating good fruit," feel the farmers from Hassan.

There are also reports of light rains in Madikeri, Kadaba of South Kanara, Beltangady, Kolar, Holenarasipura, Channarayapattana, and other places.

Meanwhile, people of coastal cities still have to live with the extremely hot summer weather. Prayers are being offered in various religious places for relief from the unbearable heat. Met department has indicated that rains could bring some relief during the first week of April.
