Panaji, Oct 7: Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi is likely to visit Goa on October 12 to participate in the ongoing Goy Rakhonn Yatra, sources said.

Gandhi was initially scheduled to visit the state for the concluding function of the yatra on October 18. However, the Congress is now working on a revised programme, with his visit likely to be advanced to October 12.

The earlier itinerary had proposed visits to Margao and Navelim. However, changes are being considered, with Gandhi likely to visit Cuncolim and Quepem, covering the constituencies represented by Congress Legislature Party leader and Leader of Opposition in the Goa Assembly Yuri Alemao and MLA Altone D’Costa.

The final programme is expected to be confirmed by the party shortly.

The Goy Rakhonn Yatra, launched by the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee on September 22, is being taken across all 40 Assembly constituencies ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections. The yatra has focused on issues including the protection of Goa’s land, environment, identity and heritage, besides safeguarding democratic values.

Gandhi’s proposed participation is expected to provide further political momentum to the Congress campaign as the party steps up preparations for the 2027 Assembly elections.
