Mapusa, Oct 8: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Wednesday inspected the municipal fish market and reviewed the proposed government administrative complex at Morod during his visit to Mapusa for the BJP’s ‘Seva Jyoti Yatra’.

Accompanied by Mapusa MLA Joshua D’Souza and civic officials, Sawant visited the fish market and interacted with vendors to understand the problems they face. He directed officials to address deficiencies and ensure that necessary facilities are provided to the vendors.

The visit comes nearly two months after a multi-department inspection identified several shortcomings at the market, including poor sanitation, clogged drains, inadequate toilets, irregular water supply and deficiencies in basic infrastructure.

The fish market has remained a long-standing civic concern, with vendors and consumers raising complaints over inadequate facilities despite the Mapusa Municipal Council collecting market-related fees.

Sawant also inspected the existing government complex at Morod and reviewed plans for a proposed multi-storey Government Administrative Complex in the area.

The Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation has proposed the complex at an estimated cost of around Rs 110 crore. The project aims to bring various government departments currently operating from different locations in Mapusa under one roof. The proposal has received technical approval and is being processed for financial sanction.

The proposed complex is expected to address the long-standing issue of government offices being scattered across Mapusa and make it easier for residents to access multiple departments from a single location.

Meanwhile, the government has begun consolidating offices at the new Mapusa Municipal Council commercial complex at Angod. Several departments have already shifted there, while others are in the process of relocating.

The government is also working on plans to shift the Deputy Collector’s and Mamlatdar’s offices to a new hall in the market area to improve public access to the key revenue offices.
