Mangaluru: St Aloysius University holds unveiling of great Konkani stories

Media Release

Mangaluru, Oct 8: “Scientific standards must be applied to evaluate good literature. Just as only experts in the respective professions and fields act as evaluators in professional competitions, the evaluation of literature must also be conducted by experts. A prejudiced mindset and partiality are not good,” said Konkani writer and editor of the ‘Budkulo’ E-magazine, Donald Pereira.

He was speaking at the October month’s ‘Bolkanv’ programme held on Sunday at the Konkani Institute of St Aloysius (Deemed to be University), Mangaluru. Introducing outstanding Konkani stories and novels, he explained their excellence.

He introduced works such as V J P Saldanha’s ‘Devachye Kurpen’ and ‘Saiba Bhogos’, A T Lobo’s ‘Vell-Ghadi’, ‘Tum Boro Ja’ and ‘Hardyar Khuris’, Irene Pinto’s ‘Mhujem Antaskarn Visarchem Na’, Dr Edward Nazareth’s ‘Nirmonem’, and Wilfy Rebimbus’s ‘Fatimachem Kazar’ and ‘Tisri Chit’, and described their significance.

The director of the Konkani Institute, Fr Prashanth Madtha, explained the objectives of the institute. On this occasion, Dr Eric Lobo, who was elected as the new president of the Catholic Association of South Kanara (CASK) for the 2026-28 term, and Dr Prem Moras, who earned a PhD in Konkani, along with his wife Dr Wilma Fernandes, were felicitated. Plans to start an MA in Konkani on behalf of the Konkani Institute were announced. Information was also given regarding the installation of portraits of deceased senior writers in the institute.
