Bengaluru, Oct 8: A protest led by Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), demanding the resignation of chief election commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, was held at Freedom Park in Bengaluru on Thursday October 8.

Actor and social activist Prakash Raj, YouTuber Dhruv Rathee and CJP founder Abhijit Deepke participated in the protest and raised objections to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

The protest was organised in the form of a ‘Janata Nyayalaya’ (people’s tribunal) to hear the grievances of those affected by the SIR process. The protesters demanded that the SIR exercise be scrapped.

A large number of protesters, including women and students, gathered at the venue. Raising slogans against the SIR process, they demanded its withdrawal and called for Gyanesh Kumar to resign from his post.

The organisers said the protest was organised as a ‘Janata Nyayalaya’ to hear the grievances of people affected by the SIR process across the state. They also said a ‘Chappal Protest’ would be held subsequently in support of women.

Posters displayed at the protest venue carried slogans such as ‘Error 404 - Name Not Found’, ‘It's done bro, resign sir’ and ‘Don't erase us, hear us’.

Other messages displayed included ‘Dictatorship will not be tolerated’, ‘Vote theft’ and ‘Gyanesh Kumar, gaddi leave your chair’.

Posters featuring freedom fighters Bhagat Singh and Subhas Chandra Bose were also displayed at the venue. A poster carrying the slogan ‘Grand Theft Democracy’ also drew attention.

Meanwhile, city police made elaborate security arrangements at Freedom Park to prevent any untoward incident.
